Our commitment to Inclusion

IMG_6384.jpg

At Penthwell Farm we are committed to ensuring that our farm, programmes, and visitor experiences are accessible, inclusive, and welcoming to all. We believe that ethical farming, rural skills education, Special Educational Needs (SEN) support, and adaptive dog training should be available to everyone, regardless of ability, background, or support needs.

Our Commitment

We work continuously to provide an environment that is safe, respectful, and accessible. Our team receives ongoing training in inclusive practice, safeguarding, neurodiversity awareness, and disability awareness to ensure that every visitor feels valued and supported.

Physical Accessibility

  • Our main visitor areas, teaching barns, and outdoor activity zones have step-free access or alternative routes.

  • Accessible parking spaces are available close to the main entrance.

  • Seating and rest points are positioned throughout the site.

  • We welcome assistance animals across all areas of the farm.

  • We can provide quiet or low-stimulus areas upon request.

Accessible Toilets:
We are currently working towards installing fully accessible toilet facilities. In the meantime, we will do our best to support visitors who may require alternative arrangements. If you have specific needs, please get in touch before your visit so we can plan appropriately and ensure your comfort.

SEN & Additional Support Needs

We specialise in providing inclusive SEN sessions and aim to remove barriers to participation. We offer:

  • Personalised activities tailored to individual learning styles, sensory needs, and communication preferences.

  • Small-group or 1:1 session options.

  • Visual supports, simplified instructions, or sensory-friendly adjustments where required.

  • Staff trained in working with neurodiverse individuals and children with complex needs.

  • Flexible pacing and regular breaks.

We welcome carers, support workers, and family members to accompany visitors at no extra cost.

Adaptive Dog Training Accessibility

Our adaptive dog training programmes are designed to support a range of physical, cognitive, and emotional needs. We can provide:

  • Accessible training spaces.

  • Adjusted training methods for handlers with limited mobility, sensory needs, or anxiety.

  • Quiet or lower-distraction environments when needed.

  • Communication support, including visual cues or simplified step-by-step guidance.

Web Accessibility

Our website adheres to the World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. These standards help ensure that our online content is usable, understandable, and accessible to as many people as possible.

By integrating a range of assistive technologies and accessibility tools, we aim to make browsing our website easier for visitors who may face additional challenges. This includes features that support visual, mobility, cognitive, and sensory needs.

Despite our best efforts, there may still be areas of the website that are not yet fully accessible. We are continually working to improve our accessibility by:

  • Updating and enhancing existing tools,

  • Adding new features, and

  • Adapting emerging technologies as they become available.

Accessibility is an ongoing commitment for us, and we welcome feedback from users so we can continue to provide the most inclusive online experience possible.

Communication & Information

  • Information can be provided in accessible formats upon request, including large print, simplified language, or digital copies.

  • Staff are trained to communicate clearly and patiently.

  • We welcome communication via text, email, phone, or alternative methods.

Ongoing Improvements

We are continually reviewing our facilities and practices to improve accessibility. We welcome feedback from visitors and community members to help us identify ways to enhance our services.
